HOSPICE CARE IN THE NURSING FACILITIES AND IN ASSISTED
LIVING
Iowa River Hospice and Nursing Facilities work together to provide the best care possible for someone needing
end-of-life care. When a facility contracts with a hospice a supportive partnership is formed.
With more Americans
living longer, nursing homes have become a common place for death. Studies have shown, in some states, 30-40% of Americans
are dying in nursing facilities.
The Iowa River Hospice staff are experts in hospice care and focus on comfort, pain
management, and symptom control to enhance the lives of residents at the end of life. Hospice provides the same care to those
who live in a nursing facility as to those we care for in their private residence.
Hospice is as important to those
in the nursing facilities as at home. The partnership with the nursing facility and hospice provides a great benefit for the
patient, not just in terms of pain control and symptom management, but in helping to emphasize and support patient choice
and for the extra "tender loving care" wishes and attention that we more than deserve at this time in our lives.
"We
are so grateful to hospice in every aspect. We never felt alone. The professionals and the volunteers worked so well together
with our nursing home. It was like watching and knowing nothing would be overlooked. Hospice told us before we could ask,
and this team let us concentrate on our Dad and we knew the best was being done. My Dad died with dignity and ease. And with
that...we were at ease and truly blessed!"
The Family of Earl Engelson We thank you all!
