Letter from Executive Director
“I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people." -Maya Angelou
It has only be a few short weeks since I started my tenure as the new executive director of Iowa River Hospice but I have already felt the awesomeness and power of having an incredible organization like Iowa River Hospice with a top notch staff in this community.
Hospice care helps individuals and families find the life between the sickness and calm in the uncertainty. It is unlike any other type of medical care because it is not just medical care.
It is embracing, spiritual, hand holding, meet the goals of the patient and families care that requires a village of people from aides and administrative/community staff, to social workers, to nurses and chaplains, to volunteers, donors and families, to wonderful groups like the assistance league and our own board, in addition to the communities we serve without whose support we could not exist.
I chose to come to Iowa River Hospice and the community of Marshalltown because every person I encountered from the list above reinforced that this was a great place and a collaborative community, and my family and I have not been disappointed.
I am excited for the future at Iowa River Hospice and so thankful for its past and the incredible work that has been done. I invite you to be part of that future in whatever way that your time and talents allow.
Most Sincerely & with Gratitude,
Tami Lichtenberg, MA Executive Director
