Welcome to Iowa River Hospice

Established in 1983, Iowa River Hospice is a non-profit organization committed to serving community needs in Jasper, Marshall, Tama, Southern Hardin and Southern Grundy Counties. Our team provides high-quality, compassionate, end-of-life care for our patients and support for their family members and caregivers. Our staff is known for expertise in pain and symptom management. IRH created a special program to assist our patients with realizing special wishes or helping them meet needs beyond hospice care. Our professional grief counselors offer comfort to all community members grieving a loss.

There is always hope.

Those we serve have found hope to be at the heart of Iowa River Hospice, where the quality of life for both the patient and family is honored. Hope for the future may change to hope for the present moment.

The following heart-felt letter written by Joan George’s family share their family’s experience with Iowa River Hospice.

“I would like to give a big thank you to Karla Newton for helping our family again during our time of need with mom. There are not enough kind words to say about her Here’s just a few, she’s caring, loving, gentle, funny, dependable, reliable and she was available at any time to ease or help us with mom. Karla always answered out calls and questions. We met her 3 years ago when she came to our home thru Hospice to help dad, we were relieved when she said yes she’d help with mom. Karla will always be a part of our lives, she’s a blessing and I’m thankful God put her in our path. Thank you Karla, it was comforting to see mom was happy you were there to care for her and thankful she remembered you and grabbed your hand with a smile. Your aides Sandie and the weekend nurse, I believe Sherri, were wonderful too. Sandie was so good and calming with mom, she didn’t rush her. Mom loved the lotion Sandie used to make her legs smooth. My sisters and I thank Allie and Randy too. Everyone was so family like, which made welcoming you all into mom’s home so easy. One of the best qualities you and your team offer, are your hugs. Elbow bumps, knuckle bumps are not as effective as your compassionate hugs. Your hugs sent the worry away and eased our sadness. Thank-you again for being you and coming into our mom’s life, thank you for giving her comfort she needed in her own home.”

Love you dearly, Cindy & family. Xoxo
