A Special Moment at Iowa River Hospice

We’re honored to share a special story about one of our beloved patients, Shirley Sternola. Shirley played a meaningful role in the creation of the popular children’s book "To Market, To Market," offering both illustration support and creative ideas that helped bring the story to life.

Before joining us at Iowa River Hospice, Shirley owned a charming bookstore in Lakewood, Colorado called "Bo Peeps"—a perfect reflection of her lifelong love of books and storytelling. Her passion for literature continues to inspire those around her.

Recently, Angie Wilson, RN, brought a copy of the book for Shirley and asked her to sign it. In the photos, Shirley is seen holding treasured pictures with the book’s illustrator and the individual who inspired the main character—a beautiful reminder of her lasting impact on the world of children's literature.

How special is that? Moments like these remind us of the rich stories, talents, and legacies our patients carry with them. Thank you, Shirley, for sharing yours with us.
